Weather always plays a huge role in how turnout goes at area festivals, but this year, I'd wager a guess that the economy will have something to do with it, too.  For a change right now, the economy may have a positive impact on something.

Local festivals are a wonderful way for communities to get together and celebrate what's great about Eastern Carolina: the people, the beautiful cities and towns and tradition.  Add in some great live music, vendors with fun items to browse and good food, and families might find festivals the perfect way to get out of the house without breaking the bank.

The Washington Summer Festival kicks off Friday, June 12.  We'll see how my theory plays out.  Of course, weather pending.

There are several festivals featured in our online community calendar.  Just click on the "Community" tab of witn.com.

I have to agree with you. Festivals are a great way for families to do something for less. As a vendor, the economy has a great effect on us. Although there is a positive trend this year. Our sales are up over last year at most events. Maybe it's a sign.
