This past Friday many areas across eastern Carolina dropped into the lower 30s, resulting in areas of patchy frost. It appears we're probably out of the woods as far as freezing temperatures go. It's not uncommon to get some frosty conditions for the mid to late parts of April. It all depends the weather pattern at the time. Last Friday we had dry and cool conditions, as high pressure sprawled out across the east coast, that allowed temperatures to drop very rapidly.
Looking into the crystal ball, we'll see cloudy conditions with showers and thunderstorms through early Tuesday, which will keep our temperatures mild with lows in the 50s. We do start to dry it out on Wednesday, and it will be cooler with highs in the 60s both Wednesday and Thursday, with warmer 70s and eventually 80s next weekend. Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 40s and 50s through next weekend.
So if you're itching to get in the garden, i think you're safe now, as far as any frosty conditions. I don't think we have to worry about that again until sometime next fall. In fact on the other end of the scale, we could be seeing temperatures well into the 80s next weekend. So it may not be a bad idea to get the pool in working order soon.
