Governor Perdue On "Working Vacation"

N.C. Governor Beverly Perdue (D) was sworn into office on January 10th. One month later, she is on vacation.

Technically, Perdue's office says the governor is on a "Working Vacation" all this week and that the vacation was planned before the November election. Where is she? A spokesperson for Perdue said she didn't know exactly where the governor was vacationing, but Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton said he's been told that Perdue is out of the country.

In this day and age of technology, some might argue the governor is as plugged in to the needs of the state as if she were in Raleigh. Others might argue her absence, especially one month into her tenure and with a growing financial crisis, that going on vacation sends the wrong message.

What do you think? Is it a big deal that the governor is vacationing right now, or is it no big deal at all?

Sure doesn't show a lot of commitment to the citizens that elected her. I don't care if the vacation was planned or not, a better pr move would have been to cancel it. this would have at least shown that you care about apperences.

What did you expect? Do you really think she cares about North Carolina? She has begun "flexing her muscles" with budget cuts that make no sense just to prove to everyone she can. She needs to look at the top level of government to make cuts instead of the state employees who are doing the real work at the ground and middle levels. A working vacation at taxpayers expense...cut that out of your budget Bev!

I hope she has a good time, and I hope that it is on the tax payers dime! Think of all those people across our state and country that have been on vacation...err...unemployment for the past six months. I mean come on she has one of the most stressful jobs in the state, during one of the worst economic periods in history. She deserves to be pampered a little bit. For god sakes, the first thing I do before taking a new job despite it's importance is to make sure I have a little breather after training so hard.

Working Vacation sounds like code for Taxpayer Funded Vacation. It will be interesting to find out.

We the people should dock her pay. Who out there signed off approval for her vacation? I need to see her expense report after this so called working vacation. If this happens one more time with out the written approval of your voters you are fired. Consider this your final warning Bev

What would happen if you just took a job and then a month later went on vacation. You Democrats voted her in, deal with it.

Talk about poor taste and bad timing...What were you thinking, Gov. Perdue? Some of us cannot even afford medication and/or medical treatment right now, much less go on vacation. I am VERY disappointed in our new governor.
