If you watched our news at six you saw several athletes across eastern Carolina sign letters of intent. Congratulations to those athletes and their families. It's the reward of several years of hard work.

It occurred to me while watching the signings that it's unfortunate that there isn't an "academic" letter of intent signing day. There are certainly plenty of kids receiving similar scholarships for their classroom skills. It would be great to highlight their accomplishments as well.

If you have a son, daughter, friends or family who's academic excellence is being rewarded with a scholarship, by all means, let us know. Feel free to post the information here and brag about them a little. And if there are athletes from other sports who have received scholarships...let's hear about them as well.

Congratulations to all who have worked so hard, whether in sports, the classroom, or both.
