No Mail On Saturday...It Could Be A Good Thing

The U.S. Postmaster is warning Saturday mail service may have to come to an end.

The U.S. Postmaster is warning Saturday mail service may have to come to an end because of the recession.

Postmaster General John Potter says the post office could face a net loss of $6 billion this fiscal year.  That's why he says the post office may be forced to cut out one day of mail delivery, likely Saturday.

We were discussing this in the newsroom and it seems like there are many different viewpoints on whether it's a good thing or not.  On the one hand, you wouldn't have to worry about opening those bills on Saturday.  On the other hand, some people look forward to the mail and the surprises that may be in their mailbox...cards and letters from friends and family, magazines, things they've ordered, catalogs to order more stuff.

Whether you would or wouldn't like to see mail continue on Saturdays, or just don't care...the most unfortunate aspect of this whole thing would be if more people lose their jobs because of it.
