It's All Relative

The cold weather, I mean.

"You're from Chicago.  You should be used to cold weather!"

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that.  It's true: I grew up near Chicago where it is much colder in the winter than it is in Eastern Carolina.  I've lived here for nearly seven years, and the climate here is my new "normal."  When the temperature here is forecast to be 14 degrees in the overnight, I think that's cold!  It doesn't compare with the fact that the temperature probably won't get above freezing mark where most of my family members live today, but still, this is cold by Eastern Carolina standards.

If you spend anytime reading the messages people post to stories at, you know things can get pretty contentious between people posting.  Things are even heating up on the story about the cold weather (pardon the pun).  Some are saying the weather here is not cold, but that's actually cold in a place where they grew up.  Then another person calls them a transplant and says they should consider going back to where we came from.  Just goes to show you: it's all relative, especially what one defines as cold weather.
