Great News For Cable Customers

By: Chris Mossman

WITN will continue to be carried on all cable companies in eastern North Carolina except Sunburn Cable in Belhaven.

WITN has reached agreement in principle with all of the major cable systems that carry us along with Dish Network and DirecTV.

The only exception is that WITN will no longer be available on Sunburn Cable in Belhaven.

Negotiations are at a standstill with Sunburn and they will no longer be authorized to carry us on that system as of December 31st. If you are a Sunburn customer, we suggest you switch to Belhaven Cable, Dish Network, DirecTV or install a simple antenna to continue viewing WITN.

To recap, WITN has reached an agreements in principle with Suddenlink, MediaCom, Time Warner Cable, MediaCast and all systems in the area except Sunburn Cable.

More great news for viewers in ENC. Directv has just launched today 1/7 local hd channels. WITN HD, WNCT HD, WCTI HD, and WYDO HD have been added. You will need the slightly larger slim line dish to get these channels. This will eliminate the need for the 2nd dish needed for the SD locals. Dish Network currently only has WITN HD and WNCT HD up in HD.

Suddenlink has raised its cable rates another $2. Im with Directv and expect a rate hike in March. The Gov't needs to look into these prices. $2-3 every year, its getting out of hand.

Anonymous - You have a choice. We'd like you to watch WITN and we do provide a free on-air signal for your convenience. We also are available via Dish Network and DirecTV and are compensated by those two providers the same way they compensate the other channels that they carry. WITN and Media Cast have been unable to reach an agreement over our station's value. We maintain that they pay much more for channels with significantly smaller audiences then WITN has in this area. It is their decision to make and we certainly wish that they would agree to the terms that others have accepted. We're asking for less than one eighth of what most cable systems pay for the ESPN family of networks.

Thanks for your interest in keeping WITN available in Greene County.

Suli- I'm not sure what you mean by your comment on the Washington area getting the short end of the stick. Suddenlink serves Washington and it appears that we will soon finalize our agreement with Suddenlink.
