Would You Eat Genetically Engineered Salmon?

Do you love salmon? Would you eat it if it was genetically engineered to grow faster by being injected with a hormone?

The demand for salmon here in the United States, because of cardiovascular and neurological benefits, remains as high as ever.  It's why one company wants to sell genetically engineered salmon.

This is definitely one of those stories people feel strongly about one way or the other.

The Massachusetts company that is asking the FDA for permission to to sell the modified fish says injecting it with a hormone would allow it to grow faster.  They say the fish would reach maturity in  16 to 18 months instead of 30.  The company also says it would mean less imports.

But there are those who think something is fishy here.  Critics call the modified fish "Frankenfish,"  and wonder what would be next.

The FDA concluded two days of hearings Monday as it tries to determine whether to allow the genetically engineered salmon.  While it hasn't made a decision yet, it has concluded that no harm can come from consuming the fish.

So what do you think?  Should the FDA grant permission for the company to sell the salmon?  Would you eat the modified fish? Do you fear what else this could lead to, or do you think it's a good idea?

Genetic modification is the cause of a lot of modern diseases and maladies. You can't tell me that growth hormone isn't transferred in some way to the consumer. We already see the results of adding hormones to milk & meat sources in the form of 9 yr old girls menstruating, so what more do we have to do to ourselves before there is half a clue??? The FDA also states no neurological problems from consuming sucralose, and yet it is a migraine trigger - Migraine Disease is a neurological disease, not just headaches! We went through the same problem with aspartame & it's KNOWN to lead to neurological diseases. The FDA isn't very convincing. No Frankenfish. I'll boycott any company that backs it & tell everyone I know to do the same.

I think it's monstrous. What will this do to the natural population of salmon. It seems to me if they mate then in 10 or 20 years there could be no natural salmon left. I try to eat only organic natural minimally processed food. The greedy practices in this country sicken me. Frankenfish, frankensteer, frankencorn are all included. Do you think they would even consider tampering with the food they put in their bodies in Italy or France. The botom line with the salmon is the producers can become richer faster by speeding up and increasing the growth of these fish and anything else they are permitted to alter. I am against it!
