The rainy start to the day Sunday made it perfect for planning to settle down in front of the TV for the first weekend of NFL games. That's exactly what I did.
Sunday was certainly an action-packed kickoff for football fanatics. Besides my Pittsburgh Steelers squeaking out an overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons, there were plenty of highlights around the NFL.
The explosive offense by the healthy New England Patriots should send a message to all NFL teams, even if Randy Moss isn't happy. The Houston Texans and running back Arian Foster, who ran for a Texans-record 231 yards and scored three TDs, also made a statement by knocking off the Indianapolis Colts. There was plenty of hard-hitting in the Green Bay win over Philadelphia. While Aaron Rodgers is being touted as a top quarterback in the league, the defense on this team could very well end up one of the best as well. Then there's the Washington/Dallas game that finished out the Sunday night here on WITN. The potential game winning touchdown for Dallas as time ran out was nullified with an offensive holding call. I would have hated to be Alex Barron (called with holding) on that flight back to Dallas!
It was also a good opening day for former ECU players David Garrard and Chris Johnson, among others, whose teams both won.
It was quite an exciting opening NFL weekend for football lovers...only 15 more games until the playoffs!!
