A Bertie County man who successfully broke into a pharmacy and stole $20,000 worth of prescription drugs had some trouble with his getaway, according to the Roanoke Chowan News Herald.

The paper says, 39-year-old Ernest Lee of Aulander broke into Futrell's Pharmacy in Northampton County early Thursday morning. He managed to take $20,000 worth of prescription drugs but had some difficulty after leaving the scene.

Just after fleeing the parking lot in his pickup truck, another driver cut him off and the truck flipped onto its side in a ditch.

We have checked with the jail, and Lee has posted his bond to be released.

I've known many people who were very bad alcholics, drug addicts, and other addictions. None of them resorted to robbery. Some people have no conscience, no desire to work, and think they are owed something because of a disabilty. No. Many disabled folks are contributing members of society. Addict? Yes. But, continual criminal behavoir? No excuse.

mike, i know lee very well. he has tried to get help. he didnt use to be like this! its all the doctors that put him on the wrong meds! he wants help and has been turned away from a few centers saying he dosnt need help because he suffers from chronic pain. why do you think hes been in the hospital so much? he goes to get help and is turned away due to being disabled and only having medicare. call him a pill popper all you like but it actually was forced on him by drs.Back when he 1st got hurt he didnt know what a tragedy the pain meds was going to turn into. maybe i shouldnt say it, but he even went to north side, so mike, wheres the help? unless youve been in his positition you dont understand how hard it is, especialy when you are in a rut, you suffer from pain so bad you want to die everyday, so you have to have meds, but you feel embarrassed about taking them because of people saying "pill popper", let me see anybody try and even deal with a 1/3 of the pain he has been dealing with for over 17 years! point is, when your pain is bad enough to commit suicide, your willing to do whatever to make it stop!
