Embattled Bertie County Superintendent Resigns
Dr. Chip Zullinger was suspended nearly two weeks ago, shortly after the Connect Bertie program was abruptly shelved.

The embattled Bertie County school superintendent has resigned.
Dr. Chip Zullinger was suspended nearly two weeks ago, shortly after the Connect Bertie program was abruptly shelved.
A news release says the board Thursday voted unanimously to accept Zullinger's resignation. The board then voted to name Dr. William Crawford as interim superintendent. Crawford most recently served as head of the Orange County, Virginia school system.
The board agreed to pay Zullinger a lump sum payment of $66,637.29 and any accrued annual leave. The board also agreed to rescind his suspension, to stop the pending investigation into the former superintendent, and both sides agreed not to make any disparaging statements about each other.

One thing about Bertie Co. we are afraid of Change! Dr. Z implemented so many programs to help the children to succeed. As a graduate of Bertie High, on behalf of half of the students from this area would like to say that after graduation sitting in college classes other students is so much ahead of us. The reason why is because we are so stuck in our mentality of keeping everything the same. I would like for the children (our future) to have a better opportunity than us! In order for them to have this opportunity we must WORK HARD, BUDGET, and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! Furthermore, there are too many voices down the Board of Education. Everyone has an assignment to do. If everyone would do what they are suppose to do and stop trying to put everyone else down to make themselves look good everything will be okay.

I cannot understand what one of female board members says, she's loud and overbearing, and has difficulty listening to other people's thoughts. Check into HER significant others and you will laugh about that too!

I'm a graduate of Bertie and I want to know why we can't give the new superintendent a chance. Please send me the website that shows he was fired. It just says the new board did not renew his contract. How can so many people say he has been fired. When you find the website please post it thank you.
