The snow has moved out of Eastern Carolina after some periods of very heavy snow overnight.

Road conditions are starting to improve after getting covered with snow. Since the air temperatures never dropped below freezing, that will help roads recover quickly. Traffic is actually helping to clear the slush off roads. Some backroads may remain slushy.

Snowfall totals are continuing to be gathered. Some areas are reporting as much as five inches of snow.

Road crews in Pitt County started mobilizing early Tuesday as the snow started to stick to highways. Jeff Cabaniss with the DOT in Pitt County says crews will be salting the major roads in Pitt County as soon as possible, beginning with Highways 264 and 11 and then major roads in Greenville.

Because the storm started with rain, the DOT says they were unable to pre-treat the roads for this storm.

The National Weather Service has cancelled the Winter Storm Warning for Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson, Wayne and Halifax counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Eastern Carolina expired at 9 am Wednesday. The Advisory included: Martin, Pitt, Greene, Washington, Beaufort, Jones, Craven, Onslow, Lenoir, and Duplin counties.

WIND ADVISORY: A Wind Advisory has been issued for Carteret, Hyde, and Dare counties from 5pm Tuesday through 1pm Wednesday. Winds of 25 to 35+ mph are likely with some gusts approaching 50 mph along the Outer Banks.

COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY: A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for Carteret, Hyde, and Dare counties from 7pm Tuesday through 1pm Wednesday. Water levels of 2 to 3 feet above normal will be possible along the sound-side of the Outer Banks as well as down east Carteret county. Ocean-side flooding will be possible from Rodanthe northward.
